Preparing for Your Call with an Arch Moving Estimator

A quick guide to help you get the most accurate quote in the shortest amount of time. The more details you share, the faster we can get you a number you can count on.

Save time on the phone

Less back and forth means a faster, more productive call.

Get a more accurate quote

Detailed inventory means fewer surprises on moving day.

Feel prepared, not pressured

Know exactly what to expect before we ever pick up the phone.

Step 1

List your items room by room

Walk through your home and write down the large items in each room that our crew will carry and load onto the truck. Think furniture, appliances, and anything that stands on its own. Here's what we mean:

Do include

Couches, beds, dressers, dining tables, desks, bookshelves, TVs, appliances (washer, dryer, fridge), exercise equipment, patio furniture — anything our crew physically carries.

Don't include

Items you plan to transport yourself, and anything that will be packed inside a box (clothes, dishes, books, toiletries, etc.). Those get counted separately in Step 2.

Need disassembly? For any item you'd like our crew to take apart before moving (bed frames, sectionals, desks, cribs, etc.), note it next to that item. For example: "King bed frame — needs disassembly."

Example: what a room-by-room list looks like

Master Bedroom

King bed frame + mattress (needs disassembly), 2 nightstands, dresser, mirror, TV (55")

Living Room

Sectional sofa (needs disassembly), coffee table, 2 end tables, TV (65"), TV stand, floor lamp

Kitchen

Kitchen table, 4 chairs, microwave cart, bar stools (3)

Garage

Workbench, tool chest, shelving unit, lawn mower, snow blower

Step 2

Estimate your total boxes, totes, and bins

Think about everything that will be packed in a box, tote, or bin by moving day. Give us your best guess — it doesn't need to be perfect. If you're not sure, these ranges can help as a starting point:

0–25
25–50
50–75
75–100
100+

Not sure? That's totally fine. Our estimator will walk through it with you on the call. This is just a starting point to help us come prepared.

Step 3

Flag specialty and high-value items

Some items need special planning. If any of the following apply, please include as much detail as you can — exact weight, make/model, and whether disassembly was required to get it into your current home (or will be needed at the new one):

Piano or organ
Gun safe or heavy safe
Pool table or hot tub
Marble or glass tabletops
Large gym / exercise equipment
Antiques or artwork

Example: how to note a specialty item

Gun safe — Liberty Fatboy Jr., approx. 500 lbs. Located in basement. Was brought in through a walkout door, same setup at new home.

Have something extremely valuable? Please mention it on the call so our estimator can walk you through our best recommendation for proper transport and coverage. We want to make sure your most important items are fully protected.

Step 4

Note any access challenges

These details help us send the right crew and equipment:

Stairs at either location (how many flights?)
Long driveway or narrow walkways
Elevator required (residential or commercial)
Tight parking or permit-only street
